Microsoft: Windows 7 SP1 RTM Ready, IE9 RC Modifications

Windows 7 News is reporting that Microsoft has compiled the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 RTM release. The build number of that release is 7601.17514.101119-1850 which means that it has already been compiled last year. The build appears to have passed the quality control and is now on road to become the Windows 7 Service Pack 1. The same build is also the Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM.

Microsoft added an update to this month’s patch day to prepare the operating system for the deployment of the first service pack for Windows 7. Plans have not changed according to the news post to deliver the service pack update in March 2011 via Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center.

In other news; Slight changes have been made to Internet Explorer 9 if a leaked video ! can be trusted. The video shows that it is now possible to customize the location of the tabs in the browser. Previous versions displayed open tabs on the right side of the address bar to minimize the space needed for user interface elements. There was however no option to modify the location to display tabs above or below the address bar instead which users with a lot of open tabs may prefer.

This changes with the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate and final release according to the video.

A right-click on the toolbar displays an op! tion to “show tabs below address bar” which moves them to that location instead. Other changes in the latest Internet Explorer 9 build include:

Microsoft has also improved the UI of the browser tabs and buttons in Internet Explorer 9 RC. The build features square tabs and minor UI enhancements to the address bar buttons in Internet Explorer 9. Microsoft has also updated its download manager so that it now displays the transfer speed without the need to hover over individual downloads

Internet Explorer 9 RC is expected to be released on January 28. Stay tuned.
