IE9 to Launch February 10th
Microsoft has sent out invites to a press event in the US on February 10th. The “Internet Explorer” event in San Francisco will enable Microsoft to “share some important news” about the browser.
The world is now seeing this as a launch event for the final version of the browser which will be crucial to Microsoft which, in recent years, has been bleeding browser market share. In January 2009, Internet Explorer had 70% of the total browser market share, this had fallen to just 57% at the end of 2010.
Internet Explorer 9 is being seen as an extremely strong product, even more so for users with Windows 7 where it allows individual websites to be pinned to the Start Menu and Windows TaskBar. Any website pinned to the TaskBar can have custom jumplists with only a small amount of added code.
Otherwise in standards tests IE9 is performing strongly, with Microsoft determined to make it the most standards-compliant web bro! wser, especially for the new HTML5 web scripting language.
IE9 is not a browser for people who like plug-ins and browser add-ons. In fact the beta version will nag you to remove them in order to have the software working at its fastest. It is definitely a very fast browser and stands up well against its main rival, Google Chrome.
The latest version of Chrome already supports HTML5 and the newest version of Mozilla’s browser, Firefox, is expected to release RC stage in the next two weeks.
The next year in the browser wars will be very interesting to watch indeed.
