Create, Use And Clear Temporary Folders In Windows
Most Windows users associated temporary folders with a cache in Windows that the operating system uses to store temporary files in. The free software Temporary Data Storage Folder can be used to create, use and clear custom temporary folders in the Windows operating system.
It has been specifically designed for purposes where users need a folder for files that they want to access temporary. This can be handy for downloads for instance, or files that need to be processed for a specific time.
There are other means of achieving this, for instance by using a ramdisk or creating a folder manually and scheduling the deletion of files in it.
Temporary Data Storage Folder is easy to setup and use. It begins with the in! stallation of the software. A temporary folder is automatically created in the local apps user directory with the option to move it to another location.
Files can then be saved directly into the folder, or moved there by using the Send To > Temporary Data Storage Folder context menu option. It is a good idea to create a folder shortcut in an easily accessible location like the desktop or taskbar.
The application clears the temporary folder automatically on exit, and notify the user with balloon tips to empty the folder.
The main advantage of temporary data storage folder is that it works right after installation. Other solutions require at least some form of initial setup. The disadvantages are that it is not that easy to open the folder in the nested structure and that it is a resident program that has to run in the background all the time. Other solutions are available that can be setup without permanently running software.
The software is available for download at the Codeplex website. The application requires the Microsoft .NET Framework, the developer unfortunately does not mention the required version on the website.
