Add USB 3.0 Support to Your Computer via a Dongle

USB 3.0 brought much faster data communications, about 4x as fast, to our computers as had been possible with USB 2.0, this was a boon for all the millions of people keeping backup files on external hard disks.  The trouble was though that USB 3.0 means you either need a new motherboard in your computer (and a new new computer) or a PCI board, and not everybody could get one.

Now there’s an answer, at least for some people.  For all of you with an eSATA port on your computer, and these are much more common than you might think, sometimes doubling with a USB 2.0 port, NewerTech’s new dongle will allow you to use USB 3.0 devices in that eSATA port.

In a statement the company said…

Already have an external drive with an eSATA port? Take advantage of high-bandwidth USB 3.0 performance and experience data rates up to 5Gb/s from your external drive with the NewerTech eSATA to USB 3.0 Adapter. It’s Plug and Play easy to ! add…simply connect your eSATA drive enclosure to the adapter and then plug the adapter into your computer’s USB 3.0 port. No drivers, no hassle, just maximum performance and ultimate use of your existing eSATA equipped external storage units.

It really is plug and play with just a single eSATA port on one side and a USB 3.0 port on the other.  The company say it will support USB 3.0 data traffic up to 5Gb/s and it helpfully includes a USB 3.0 cable unlike to many other USB products on the market today.

With one of these devices you can now think of buying a USB 3.0 external hard disk as your next purchase.  One of the biggest advantages is portability, meaning that because it can be used on anycomputer with an eSATA port, you could use it at work, at friends and family’s houses and much more.  It’s a very affordable way to get access to high-speed storage on the move.

The device is tiny too, measuring only 5! 7.3mm x 64.2mm x 19mm so will sit unobtrusively on a desk.  You can find out more about the product, which will retail for around $30, and find a reseller in your area at the NewerTech website.
